Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

How important are flashings in the re-roofing process?

Flashings are critical connections to protrusions or walls. Proper installation and sealing prevent leaks.

What kind of underlayment should I use?

Use Synthetic Underlayment, which is thicker and more durable than 15# or 30# felt.

Are warranties an indication of how long my new roof will last?

No. Warranties outline the manufacturer’s liability over a set period, but they decrease over time.

What are the best roofing material choices for my house based on weather conditions in Texas?

Texas faces severe weather conditions, including high winds and hail.

Choose products tested to ASTM D 3161 with a 110 mph wind resistance or higher. Ask for UL 2218 Class 4 impact-resistant products.

Should I inspect my roof decking during replacement?

Yes. Inspect the decking when the roof covering is removed and replace damaged sections.

Consider using thicker decking (5/8" plywood) for better wind resistance.

Can a secondary water barrier be installed before the new roof covering?

Yes. Install self-adhering flashing tape or polymer bitumen strips on top of joints in your roof deck.

What services does Apex Construction and Illumination provide?

Apex Construction and Illumination provides a wide range of construction services including but not limited to commercial construction, residential construction, remodeling, renovation, and landscaping.

Where can I see my claim information and status?

You can typically view your claim information and status through your insurance company’s website or app. Check with your provider for specific details.

Should my contractor or I be onsite for the inspection?

It’s a good idea to have a trusted local roofing specialist present during the inspection. They can ensure a fair assessment of the damage alongside the adjuster.

What will you be inspecting and looking for?

The adjuster will examine the roof, looking for signs of hail or wind damage. They’ll assess the extent of the damage and determine if it qualifies for a claim.

What is an inspection vendor?

An inspection vendor is a third-party company that may be involved in assessing the damage. They work with your insurance provider to evaluate the situation.

Who is my adjuster, and when will they be assigned?

Your adjuster will be assigned by your insurance company after you file the claim. They’ll contact you to schedule an inspection.

How long will it take to complete my claim?

The processing time varies depending on your insurance company. Once the adjuster completes their evaluation, your insurance company will either approve or deny the claim, which typically takes two to three weeks.

What sets Apex Construction and Illumination apart from other construction companies?

Apex is committed to providing exceptional customer service, high-quality workmanship, and competitive pricing. Our team of experienced professionals works closely with clients to ensure that their projects are completed on time and within budget.

ICE DAMS

Preventing ice dams on your roof is crucial to avoid damage. Here are some steps you can take:

Increase Ventilation

Ensure proper attic ventilation to keep the roof temperature consistent.
Cold air movement under the roof helps prevent ice dams.
Use ice and water shields in all valleys.

Cap the Attic Hatch

Seal the attic hatch to prevent warm air from escaping into the attic space.

Examine Exhaust Systems

Ensure exhaust vents (such as bathroom fans) are properly sealed and vented outside.

Check Insulation

Adequate insulation minimizes heat escape, reducing the risk of melting snow forming ice dams.

Install Chimney Flashing

Proper flashing around chimneys prevents water infiltration and ice dam formation.

Caulk Leaks

Seal any gaps or leaks in the roof, especially around vents and pipes.

Inspect Ducts and Lights

Ensure ducts and recessed lights in the attic are properly insulated and sealed.
